Dear Cardinal Families,
I hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation. I am eagerly anticipating the start of the school year and the opportunity to meet each student and family. Many wonderful changes have occurred to the school as a result of our bond program and PTA. I will work diligently to ensure your educational experience at Mclean Middle meets the highest of standards. I have included some important back to school information below. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 817.922.6830.
Uniforms
All students in attendance will be required to wear the following uniform:
v Navy, Khaki, or black bottoms or plain blue denim. Bottoms can consist of pants, capris, skorts, shorts and skirts. All bottoms must be fitted at the waist and no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. All bottoms must be hemmed or cuffed with no rips, tears or fraying. (This includes new jeans that comes with rips and tears in them.) They cannot be oversized or sagging. Gym shorts, wind pants, or sweatpants are not permitted.
v PLAIN navy or white collared shirts, (knit, oxford or turtlenecks). All shirts must be tucked in. Undershirts must be white. Any logo must be smaller than one and one-half inches. (1 ½) No sleeveless shirts, tank tops, spaghetti straps or t-shirts may be worn.
v PLAIN Navy or White knit sweaters/sweatshirts, or McLean sweatshirts. Any logo must be smaller than one and one- half inches (1 ½), other than the McLean Logo.
v School Spirit Wear – the only exception to the above uniform is on Fridays students are allowed to wear McLean T-shirts and sweatshirts. Spirit shirts/sweatshirts are defined as shirts that have the McLean Logo on them and are purchased from McLean.
v Be McLean T-Shirt-Students who have earned a Be McLean T-shirt for outstanding grades, citizenship, or improvement may wear shirt any day of the school week. (Be McLean shirts that have been handed down from an older sibling or friend may only be worn on Friday’s)
v Shoes – shoes may be of any color, shoestrings must be the dominant color of the shoe. House shoes are not allowed.
Uniforms may be purchased at any store as long as the purchased items meet the above mentioned criteria. If you are having trouble purchasing the uniform please contact the school.
The following is a list of items that are not allowed at school: Head coverings, dark glasses or sunglasses, pocket chains or metal belts, Sloppy, oversized or torn clothing (ex. No sagging or long shirts), body/facial piercing jewelry other than earrings in the ear, bare midriff, mesh or other see through clothing, Any clothing, artificial hair coloring, jewelry or accessories considered to be disruptive or harmful to the educational process.
School Supplies
Many of you have questions about school supplies. Our students will be using one binder for all of their core content classes. Below is a list of school supplies that all students are expected to carry to all of their classes!
· Four 3 subject spiral notebooks
· Three 1 subject spiral notebooks
· 2” Three Ring Binder, zippered preferred
· Pencils (Mechanical Preferred)
· Notebook Paper
· Pens (blue, black and red)
· Lock (Combination Only)
· Colored Pencils
There may be some specific supplies required by special classes. Those items will be discussed on the first day of school.
Schedules
Seventh Grade and Eighth grade students can pick up their schedules from 9am-11:30p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2010.. No schedules will be given out Friday, August 20th. Schedules will be ready on the first day of school for those students who do not pick them up prior to the start of school. All requests to change student’s schedule must be completed on a schedule change request form and turned into the front office by Thursday, August 26th. Schedule changes will only be granted for academic reasons and if there is a parent signature on the request form.
Important Dates
As you prepare for the next year and any holiday vacations, I want to make you aware of some very important dates. Please see the PTA calendar located on our Website for more important dates.
· August 23rd – First Day of school, first bell is at 9:13am, school dismisses at 4:20pm. Students will report to their homerooms at 9:20am. Lists of homeroom assignments will be posted on all the doors and in the plaza.
· September 3rd-School Pictures.
· September 6th – Labor Day-NO SCHOOL
· September 9th-Open House 6:30-8:00
· September 16th-Howdy Dance 7-9pm
· October 13th-First Report Card
· Thanksgiving Holiday-Monday, November 22 - Friday, November 26, 2010
· Winter Break-Monday, December 20, 2010 – Monday, January 3, 2011
